What is Bowen Therapy ?
The Bowen Technique was developed in Geelong Australia in 1950 by Tom Bowen - not much is known about Tom he was a very private man dedicated to treating those in need. He was a gifted therapist with thousands of people seeking treatments every year
Bowen therapy is a set of rolling moves made by the therapist using thumbs and fingers over muscle, tendon and soft tissue. There is no manipulation, force or adjustment to the body. These sets of moves are designed to stimulate the muscles and soft tissue over precise points of the body which enables the body to respond, unblock and begin to repair from within. After each set of moves the practitioner will put in a 2 minute break which is unique to Bowen, this is in order to allow the body to process the moves and take appropriate action to begin self repair. |
Common Conditions and Complaints brought to Bowen
Bowen can address the same conditions that are often treated by an Osteopath, Chiropractor or Physiotherapist. However Bowen is different from these forms of therapy. It is not a form of massage or manipulation but it offers the body a chance to restore its own structural integrity and will look at treating the body as a whole not just specific presentations. |
